Traveling to See Your Child During Haiti Adoption Process

Building Arizona Families is on a mission to place as many children as possible into loving forever families through our Haiti adoption program. As a licensed, non-profit, Hague accredited international adoption agency we can work with families in any state through our Haiti adoption program. Our committed staff works passionately to protect the best interest of Haitian children and our adoptive families.

Building Arizona Families Walks Alongside Your Family During Haiti Adoption Journey

Building Arizona Families is looking for adoptive families who are interested in adopting children five years old and older and sibling groups.  We are also able to assist with kinship adoptions from Haiti. Another task is dossier preparation.  It can sometimes seem daunting, but with our experience and expertise, we assist our families in the compilation of the many required documents.

Since 2005, we have been working alongside forever families when they choose to adopt a child from Haiti, and are one of just a handful of U.S. adoption agencies permitted to facilitate the adoption of Haitian children by the Haiti government. We have a hands-on connection to Haiti.

There are specific requirements adoptive families must meet, including two trips to Haiti. Learn more about Haiti adoption requirements, costs, and time frames HERE

Your Initial Trip

After the Haitian government approves the referral of a child, the adoptive family travels to Haiti for two weeks for a socialization period with the adoptive child.

During the socialization period, adoptive families take time to begin building a loving relationship with their child. Every child experiences this time differently, but adoptive families treasure these moments as they anticipate bringing their child home forever.

Final Trip

The second trip is a final six-day bonding period before adoptive families bring their child home! At the end of the six days, the family is permitted to travel to the USA with their child. This bonding period helps the child begin the process of feeling safe and secure before traveling to their new home.

Feel Prepared and Confident Before Taking Initial and Final Haiti Trips

Adoptive families can prepare themselves beforehand to feel confident during these essential trips during the Haiti adoption process. At first, your child may be anxious, nervous, scared, or even confused. These are all very normal feelings to have during this time of change. Bonding with your child during your visits may feel more relaxed following these suggestions-

  • Don’t rush it, let your child take the lead when spending time together, and listen to cues they are giving.
  • Talk, read, and sing to your child as much as possible.
  • Play simple games.
  • Be sensitive and understanding of your child’s emotions and needs. Respect the way your child responds to this new experience.

Give a Child a Forever Family as a Single Parent Adopting From Haiti

Single parents around the country share the joy Kara felt when adopting a child internationally. Kara, a single parent adopting from Haiti, shares her story with us on our Building Arizona Families Youtube channel, HERE. Kara opens up about her adoption journey and experience with Building Arizona Families.

It was essential for Kara to find an adoption agency that was open, honest, and transparent. With support and guidance from BAF, Kara felt comfortable during the adoption process and felt she was able to stay true to herself. As a single parent adopting from Haiti, being truly listened to was a key component in choosing to work with Building Arizona Families on her adoption journey. She immediately felt confident and relaxed working with our staff who have also adopted internationally.

The Magical Call That Blessed Kara’s Life Forever

During a meeting at work, Kara received a phone call and knew her life was about to change forever. This proud mama can remember the exact moment she learned she had matched with a little girl in Haiti. Kara explains this day as the best day of her life. After waiting patiently through the long process of international adoption, finally getting the call is magical. That night, Kara celebrated how fortunate she was to be a single parent adopting from Haiti and to be blessed with this little girl.

At a young age, Kara knew she wanted to adopt a child. After traveling to many places and seeing the devastation children can grow up in, she knew international adoption was the perfect fit.

Kara shares how fortunate enough she was to spend two weeks in Haiti with her precious little girl. She learned how beautiful, sweet, inquisitive, and curious her little girl was. But Kara couldn’t help but ask, “What if she doesn’t love me as much as I love her?” Things started tentatively at first, but during her two-week visit, a beautiful bond started to form. This fantastic single parent adopting from Haiti was able to show her loving commitment to a child in need. On the last day of the visit, Kara talks about her emotional goodbye and how she knew this little girl loved her back when she reached out to Kara and wiped her tear away.

Provide a Hopeful Future for a Child in Need as a Single Parent Adopting From Haiti

When visiting Haiti to meet her precious daughter, Kara saw many children who do not have many of the things which others take for granted. These children lack simple things like fresh drinking water, safe living conditions, and above all else, the secure love of parents. At Building Arizona Families, we are on a mission to find safe and loving homes for as many Haitian children as possible. Do you feel called to open your heart and provide a hopeful future for one of these precious children?

Feeling Confident in Beginning the Haiti Adoption Process

Haiti Adoption Process

Are you considering international adoption? Have you looked into adopting from Haiti? As an internationally accredited and Haitian government approved adoption agency, Building Arizona Families is here to help you better understand the Haiti adoption process so you can feel confident in the next steps to take.

Taking the First Step, Choosing Your Adoption Agency

Adopting a precious child from Haiti is an amazing, life changing decision. All children deserve the love of a family and the opportunity to thrive. Haiti adoption allows these children to find love, safety, and security in their forever home.

Finding an adoption agency you trust is the first step of beginning the Haiti adoption process. Building Arizona Families is a non-profit, Hague accredited adoption agency (required for legal international adoption) and is one of just 19 U.S. adoption agencies permitted to work in Haiti. Our agency would be honored to support your family on this amazing journey and watch as your family grows through adoption!

Step by Step Haiti Adoption Process

The Haiti adoption process takes about 24 months. After contacting Building Arizona Families, these are the next steps in the adoption process:

• Complete a home study. This can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months. During a home study, there are different interviews that will take place to get to know the adoptive family. A social worker will also take time learning about your home and seeing the environment your child will live in.

• Apply for adoption eligibility. This typically takes up to 3 months and determines if requirements are met to adopt from Haiti.

• Waiting for referral. With a longer time frame, this can take about 6 to 8 months due to Haitian legal intricacies.

• Socialization period. For two weeks the adoptive family travels to Haiti to complete their socialization period with their adoptive child.

• Gaining Haitian government approval to adopt. This can take up to 8 months for the Haitian government to give final approval of adoption.

• Bringing your child home! The final trip is a six day bonding period where you will bond with your child before taking them home. At the end of the six days the family can return to the USA with their new child!
