Building Arizona Families’ International Haiti Adoption

Haiti Adoption

As of May 2020, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Without adequate food, health care, and education,  “A child born today in Haiti will be only 45 percent as productive when she grows up as she could be if she had enjoyed full health and education.” (World Bank Human Index). Haiti adoption provides a secure, healthy life with many of the resources children need to succeed that are unavailable in their homeland.

Educational outcomes for Haitian children unfortunately do not provide the platform they need to succeed. “On average Haitian children attend 11.4 years of school by age 18, which is equivalent of 6.3 years of adjusted learning and is the lowest score in the region” (World Bank Human Index). Thousands of vulnerable Haiti children are hoping for the opportunity to have a productive future. They are hoping and praying for a loving family to adopt them. Haiti adoption gives a child the life they deserve and a better future with their adoptive family.

Building Forever Families by Adopting Children from Haiti

Adopting Children From Haiti

When adopting children from Haiti, forever families can begin to provide children with the love and attention they deserve. But forever families also provide essential life necessities for children they may commonly go without. Every child deserves a chance at a family, especially at this time. Adoption provides love, community, and connection.

Even with all that is going on right now, our Haiti team is communicating with our partners and parents daily. We understand the anxiety and uncertainty that this outbreak can produce, but we also encourage families to be optimists. Where can we see the opportunity in a difficult time to grow and learn? Times like this can show us where we need to learn to become better versions of ourselves, and it also can show us where we are stronger in one area or another—stronger and more resilient than we ever knew.

Hopeful Adoptive Parents can Still Adopt During This Unique Time

Although a family might be sheltered-in at this time, that doesn’t mean they cannot move forward in their wish to become a parent to a child in need. In fact, hopeful adoptive families can begin the adoption process now and can seize the opportunity to show themselves in a unique light and to tell their story in a very human way. Not only will others be able to relate, but hopeful adoptive parents could use this unique moment in time to show just how calm, cool, and collected they will be as parents. Yes, we all do look a little less put together than we may want to present ourselves, but perfection doesn’t define love, community, and connection. This is a once in a lifetime situation that is playing out each day before our eyes. As we continue doing home studies for our families (read more about home studies HERE) and working with hopeful parents, our approach will be gentle and our advice will be simple: If you are ready, adopting children from Haiti now is a great time to showcase yourself in an honest light. Real people build real families founded in love.

Choosing a Hague Accredited Adoption Agency for Haiti Adoptions

Haiti Adoption

When making the decision to begin the Haiti adoption journey, choosing the right adoption agency is an essential first step. Your adoption agency should be committed to providing high levels of service and communication during the adoption process. Above all else, the right adoption agency is one that is appropriately certified, accredited, and licensed. A Hague accredited adoption agency is required for Haiti adoptions to ensure that the best interests of the child are always first and foremost.

At Building Arizona Families, we understand the adoption journey, as many of our staff members have adopted children themselves! We will walk with your family with compassion, the utmost professionalism, and expertise in handling the many aspects of Haiti adoptions. We are a Hague accredited, licensed, local adoption agency which has also been accredited by the Haitian government.

How is a Hague Accredited Adoption Agency Different?

A Hague accreditation means an adoption agency goes through rigorous evaluation by an international adoption accrediting organization. Countries permitting international adoption require Hague accreditation for adoption agencies to work in their country. Standards and practices like adoptive parent recruitment, placement of special needs children, home study comprehensiveness, and adoptive family education are all intensely evaluated.

Being Hague accredited means an agency is operating under the highest standards. Not only is Building Arizona Families Hague accredited, but we have been chosen as one of only 19 U.S. adoption agencies to continue working in Haiti. Since 2005, we have been serving adoptive families as they adopt children from Haiti. We are committed to working with families to successfully complete adoptions from Haiti. Learn more about our Haiti adoption program HERE.

Haiti Adoption Requirements Helps Put Children First

Haiti adoption requirements

Many women and men who long for children experience pain and heartache.  This heartache can turn to joy through welcoming a beautiful and ready to be loved child into your loving embrace. There are also men and women already raising children who know how great the need is for Haiti orphans to have loving, stable homes.  They open their hearts and homes to provide loving security so desperately needed by Haiti orphans.

Building Arizona Families is a Hague accredited Arizona adoption agency helping women and men around the United States find the joy and laughter they have been waiting for. Our agency is only one of a handful of adoption agencies that the Haitian government has chosen to work with.  One of the reasons we are a selected agency is that our staff are very knowledgeable in regards to fulfilling Haiti adoption requirements including government applications/forms, and the actual requirements included by the government in the adoption process.  The process is stringent and time consuming, because the Haitian government takes its’ responsibility to protect children very seriously.  Families who are adopting Haitian children really wouldn’t want it any other way- it’s right to put the children first always.

Meeting the Haiti Adoption Requirements for a Brighter Future

The Haiti government protects their native children and wants to ensure they have a bright and promising future ahead of them. They adhere strongly to their Haiti adoption requirements to find the very best of homes for their children needing a forever family. Unfortunately, the land conditions, illness, natural disasters and poverty in Haiti cause hardship and hopeless conditions for its people, children included. Many families in the U.S., however, are eligible to adopt a child from Haiti and give them the forever family they wish for.

The list of Haiti adoption requirements are issued by the Haitian government in order to ensure it is finding safe, loving homes for its children. Some of the requirements adoptive families would need to meet are:

  • Opposite-sex married couples, one parent at least the age of 30 and both parents not older than age 48
  • Single women must be 35-48 years old
  • Financially stable in order to provide for the child
  • No one in the home can have any unlawful activity in their background

Find out more about the Haiti adoption requirements HERE, and see if your family is eligible to adopt a beautiful child from Haiti waiting for their forever home.

How the Laws of Haiti Adoption Requirements Changed Haiti Adoption

In 2013, the Haiti Parliament voted to change the adoption laws that were previously written in 1974. The New Adoption Law for Haiti was put in place, giving adoptive families new criteria in order to meet the new adoption requirements. The Haitian government proceeded to hand select a group of Hague accredited adoption agencies that would work in the best interest of the children of Haiti. Building Arizona Families was one of the adoption agencies the Haitian government chose to successfully work with.

Our Hague accredited adoption agency has found many wonderful adoptive homes for the children of Haiti with families around the U.S. We have been blessed to see these families flourish with love brought into their forever family.

If your family meets the adoption requirements for Haiti, you too can experience the overwhelming love and joy that adopting a child from Haiti could bring into your life. These children are strong, beautiful, and loving children wanting love and safety for their future.
